Russian professors will help implement a major project of KRSU scientists
On September 15, KRSU completed lectures by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Laboratory of Biochemical Foundations of Pharmacology and Tumor Models of the National Medical Research Center of Oncology named after. N. Blokhin Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Head of the Department of Biochemistry named after. T. Berezov Russian University of Friendship of Peoples named after Patrice Lumumba (Moscow) Vadim Pokrovsky.
The Russian scientist’s speeches took place as part of events dedicated to the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation, the national project «Science and Universities», and the strategic academic leadership program «Priority – 2023».
Thanks to the lectures of Olga Cherkasova (which we wrote about earlier), Vadim Pokrovsky and personal discussions of oncology issues and the influence of terahertz (THz) radiation with leading scientists of the Russian Federation, teachers of KRSU were able to make adjustments to the academic disciplines they conduct at the university, establish contacts with the heads of these scientific centers in Russia and further, in 2024, take part in joint scientific research. Thus, students of the Faculty of Medicine received completely new theoretical and practical knowledge about modern methods of diagnosing and treating malignant tumors.
–Professor Vadim Pokrovsky surprised with his vision of scientific modeling of malignant tumors and in his lectures he paid special attention to the mechanisms of tumor occurrence, methods of studying possible antitumor agents in experiments and preclinical studies, and warned against mistakes of novice researchers in the field of theoretical oncology, – said Candidate of Medical Sciences Yusuf Shidakov.
– Lectures by two visiting professors will help KRSU scientists in implementing one of the largest scientific projects of the university, – our scientist believes.
We are talking about the project «Principles of the use of electromagnetic radiation of the THz range and gold nanoparticles in medicine» authored by the head of the laboratory for experimental modeling of pathological processes Yusuf Shidakov, researcher Kamil Moldosanov and under the leadership of Professor Valery Lelevkin.
Project members posed a number of questions regarding the use of gold nanoparticles for the treatment of cancer and began implementing these studies. Theoretical provisions for future research of the project have been published in the article «A new look at the use of gold nanoparticles in cancer therapy» (authors: A. Dadabaev, Yu. Shidakov, V. Lelevkin, A. Sorokin, K. Moldosanov). It has been shown that gold nanoparticles smaller than 8 nm in size are sources of spontaneous THz radiation and the possibility of their use in oncology for the treatment of malignant tumors is due to the effects of THz radiation on the cells of living organisms.
To implement the project, KRSU carried out the necessary consultations, experiments and practical research by leading Russian scientists Olga Cherkasova and Vadim Pokrovsky, who became interested in the project and agreed to participate in joint work.
Currently, in addition to theoretical developments, thanks to Professor Vadim Pokrovsky, KRSU scientists are conducting experiments with mice. We believe that future scientific and practical research within the framework of this project will receive new results and technologies in the treatment of malignant tumors.
