Happy Chemist's Day!
It took place at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Faculty of Medicine student Olympiad in biological chemistry in the format of a traditional meeting of teams of specialties «General Medicine» and «Pediatrics» – <TAG1> Club of cheerful and resourceful chemists«. The competition was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University and Chemist's Day, which is celebrated on May 28.
This time five teams met: «Pyruvatiki», «Enzyme Power», «Energy Intensive», «Fortune Biochemists» and «Homo Biochemicus». 1st-2nd year students with high final scores in the department’s disciplines took part in the competition.
Colorful posters, a sea of balloons, ironic facts about chemistry and chemists posted on the walls – even before the event began, it was felt that the event would not disappoint the audience and participants.
The jury included the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, associate professor R. Karaeva, head. Faculty of Medical Sciences Ch. Nagoybaeva, the dean of the Faculty of Biology of KNU named after. Zh. Balasagyna, associate professor Sh. Suleymanova, head. Department of General Biology, Ecology and Laboratory Science, Associate Professor T. Toktosunov, Associate Professor of the same department A. Marasulov and senior researcher at the Institute of Chemistry and Phytotechnologies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic G. Kambarova.
After the welcoming speech of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine R. Karaeva and the Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Matyushchenko N.S. The game was launched.
Each team has prepared a business card – «Let me introduce myself». These original greetings were highly praised by the jury.
The main part was an intellectual game, including the categories: Warm-up («Own game»); practical tour («Recognize the substance»), «Chemical crossword». A captaincy competition was also held – «Is it true?» and «Case history» (situational task).
The teams' support groups did not stand aside and they brought additional points to their teams. Tasks were prepared for them: creative task – present posters (newspapers) on the topic «Chemistry in medicine» and competition «Black Box».
Team members successfully demonstrated the knowledge gained from studying chemistry and biochemistry.
Throughout the Olympiad, talented students of the Faculty of Medicine performed during pauses between competitions. Dancing, singing and playing musical instruments did not let the packed lecture hall get bored.
The final stage was homework. The teams' creative performances reflected the main biochemical processes in the form of skits.
All jury members highly appreciated the efforts of the game participants. When summing up the results, the jury noted that our students are talented, smart and inquisitive and thanked them for the pleasure they received from the competition. Students have seriously prepared for the intellectual game «Chemistry – ally of medicine».
The winners of the competition were students from the following teams:
Diploma of 1st degree <TAG1> –Energy intensive«(specialty » General medicine«);
Diploma of the 2nd degree <TAG1> – Pyruvatics«(specialty » General Medicine«) and » Biochemists of Fortune«(team specialty » Pediatrics«);
3rd degree diploma <TAG1> – Enzyme strength«(specialty » General medicine«) and » Homo biochemistry«(specialty » Pediatrics«).
The team «Pyruvatiki» earned the title «Golden Hands» in the practical round, and captains Syimyk Kamalov (LD-15-21) «Energy-intensive» and Odilsher Mukhamedaliev (LD-10-21) «Enzyme Power» – title «Golden Head».
Teams and participants of the competition were awarded memorable diplomas, certificates in various categories and received encouragement in the form of additional points to the rating in the disciplines studied at the department. All teams are winners, there are no losers. The jury members congratulated all participants of the event and thanked the students and staff of the department for their active participation in the preparation and conduct of the intellectual game.
The competition will be remembered by all participants and jury members as a good, kind, interesting, bright, fun and educational event.
