KRSU students visited the Russian airbase in Kant

On December 10, students of the Faculty of International Relations of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University visited the United Russian Military Base. The object of the visit was a military airfield in the city of Kant. Russian military personnel showed hospitality, not only demonstrating samples of weapons, aircraft and other military equipment, but also treating them to a delicious army lunch in the field. Future international affairs officers were introduced to the history of the presence of Russian military personnel on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, the tasks they perform and interaction with units and formations of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere. Students received comprehensive answers to their questions.

The Russian military air base «Kant», being the aviation component of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces, performs tasks to ensure the security of the territory and airspace of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, including the Kyrgyz Republic. The base was deployed in 2003 after the Batken events on the basis of interstate agreements.

The base's pilots take part in various international counter-terrorism exercises, invariably confirming a high level of professional training.

Along with the deployment of Russian military facilities in the country, Russia is helping Kyrgyzstan strengthen its Armed Forces. In October 2022 with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Central Repair Base for Weapons and Military Equipment of the Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan was created. In different years the republic as part of military-technical assistance received from the Russian side military transport aircraft that are stationed at the Kant airfield armoured personnel carriers, howitzers and other weapons.
