KRSU students in the ranks of volunteer cyclists
During the emergency, many areas of Bishkek were blocked, patrol posts were set up, public transport was suspended, and therefore it became difficult for many patients of the Endocrinology Center (EC) to receive insulin on time. Thanks to the coordinated work of EC doctors and activists «of the Cycling Society of Kyrgyzstan», an agreement was reached that insulin would be delivered by volunteer cyclists. Among them are KRSU students Angelina Podstrechnaya and Semyon Velikorodov.
A team «Velo Teamurovites» was formed from volunteers. Today, cyclists deliver not only insulin, but also food for socially vulnerable segments of the population. Given the positive experience of insulin delivery, it was decided that after the end of quarantine, bicycle volunteers will continue this work – deliver insulin to older people on a voluntary basis.
Angelina Podstrechnaya, student of FMO KRSU:
– I can’t help with finances, but I can help with deeds, that’s why I signed up to volunteer cycling. As long as there is an opportunity to help people, I will do it. After all, it’s not at all difficult to pedal, it’s movement, so it’s useful for me too.
For the sixth year now, Angelina has been enjoying not only riding a bicycle, but also participating in competitions. This fragile girl has medals for prizes both in the Kyrgyz Republic and abroad.
Medical student Semyon Velikorodov forms bags of insulin for cyclists:
–I joined the ranks of volunteers in order to gain experience for my future profession, because a doctor must help people.
