Thermal energy: development in the regions of the country is required

In the next issue of the newspaper «Word from Kyrgyzstan» (for November 5, 2021) an article was published by the head of the department of national economy and regional development of KRSU, Professor Asylbek Ayupov. In it, the scientist discusses the high risk of a threat to the economic security of the Kyrgyz Republic and its regions due to the fact that energy supply depends on only one type of energy carrier – HPP.

The cyclical low water content of the Naryn River periodically leads to a reduction in electricity production by the Toktogul cascade of hydroelectric power stations. In addition, repeatedly increasing loads in the autumn-winter period lead to emergency shutdowns due to increased wear and tear of equipment and the electronic networks themselves. These threats force the search for the use of other sources of electricity and heat with high potential.

At the end of the article, the author concludes: it is necessary to develop a targeted comprehensive program for the development of thermal power plants in the Kyrgyz Republic until 2025 based on the absolute advantages of the Naryn region and in the future, using the principles of the multiplier effect, to extend this program to other regions of the republic. A. Ayupov believes that in order to develop a targeted comprehensive program as a large-scale national project, it is necessary to attract highly professional specialists with practical and scientific experience in this field – economists, financiers, managers, energy workers, transport workers, representatives of big business, lawyers, ecologists, designers, scientists from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and foreign countries.
