Vyacheslav Shapovalov –, the man who reflected the image of Kyrgyzstan in Russian literature, has left
Vyacheslav Ivanovich Shapovalov – scientist, passed away translator, literary critic, teacher, poet and simply a wonderful Person. He began his career in the 1970s, having done so much since then that it is a reason to say – genius has left us!
Officially speaking, Shapovalov – a high-level specialist in the field of comparative studies, theory and history of literary translation, poetry, author of several monographs, more than three hundred scientific articles.
An outstanding translator! Individual works of American, Armenian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Greek, Georgian, Jewish, Spanish, Kazakh, German, Ossetian, Polish, Tajik, Uzbek, Ukrainian, and French lyrical poetry were translated by him. A special place in this series is occupied by the Kyrgyz poetic epic «Manas», ancient Turkic poetry, dozens of books by lyricists of Kyrgyz akyns and classics of literature of the twentieth century.
And he – A Magnificent Poet! His legacy – is over a dozen poetry books. Shapovalov was a member of the «Group for the Study of the Theory and History of Russian Verse» IMLI of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He – People's Poet of the Kyrgyz Republic, laureate of the Russian Prize.
It was he who reflected the image of Kyrgyzstan in Russian literature, showing the complex interweaving of different cultures on the territory of Central Asia, conveying the self-perception of a person living on the border of two different linguistic worlds.
He wrote about himself as follows: «Two roots of two lands intertwined in me, two songs flew off my lips above me, one was sung by an apricot komuz, the other flew from the Russian distances».
