The opening of the conference began with a historical and documentary exhibition «There is no death for the heroes of Brest!», prepared by the Center for Historical and Cultural Heritage KRSU. The exhibition, authored by Candidate of Historical Sciences Leonid Sumarokov, is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War and tells about the feat of the Kyrgyz border guards who took the first enemy blow on the western borders of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941.

The exhibition presents archival documents, photographs, materials from the front press and evidence of the fate of the defenders of the Brest Fortress and border outposts.

<TAG1>I was studying the feat of Kyrgyz border guards in the first days of the Great Patriotic War, and our exhibition is dedicated to this very topic. It reveals the fate of people —the border guards of Kyrgyzstan, who on June 22, 1941 stood on the western borders of our large country and did not retreat a single step», — Leonid Sumarokov.

Advisor to the rector of KRSU Nikolay Kudryavtsev addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech. He emphasized that the next anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War is approaching — a day of general pain and tragedy, which at the same time became the beginning of the great feat of the Soviet people.

The conference discusses issues of preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, the role of culture and education in the formation of patriotic consciousness, countering the falsification of history, as well as modern challenges associated with the interpretation of the events of the war years. Particular attention is paid to the feat of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, the activities of cultural workers during the war, the preservation of historical memory in the post-Soviet space and the role of archival materials in the study of the events of 1941.

The conference was organized by the Department of History named after Academician V.M. Flat and became a platform for open scientific dialogue and another reminder of the importance of preserving the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War and the feat of the generation of winners.
