A working meeting of Rector Denis Fomin-Nilov with representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) took place at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU). The meeting participants were the plenipotentiary representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Alishev Shabdanbek and the secretary of the information and analytical legal center of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Vyacheslav Kocharyan.
The key issues of the meeting were the discussion of the procedure for signing an agreement between KRSU and the CSTO, as well as possible areas of scientific and practical interaction in the field of regional and national security. The upcoming signing of the agreement is scheduled for September 10 in the Jogorku Kenesh as part of a coordination meeting.
New horizons of cooperation
The format of cooperation provided for by this agreement is unique for the CSTO — for the first time in its history, it is planned to conclude an agreement with national universities. This will be an important step in strengthening interaction between the scientific community and CSTO structures on security issues and monitoring the military-political situation in Central Asia.
According to Denis Fomin-Nilov, one of the key study programs cooperation will be the participation of the teaching staff of KRSU in the formation and implementation of national priorities of Kyrgyzstan during its chairmanship in the CSTO. As part of the agreement, it is planned to hold round tables, scientific conferences and other socially significant events.
The role of KRSU in the project
KRSU acts not only as an educational center, but also as a platform for analytical work, having its own centers interested in strengthening cooperation with the CSTO. One of the priority tasks is to involve young scientists in projects aimed at countering destructive ideologies.
Particular attention was paid to the ideological component — at the meeting, the possibility of participation of the civilian scientific community in developing recommendations to neutralize such threats, especially among young people, was discussed. In October, KRSU proposed organizing a round table dedicated to this problem. During the event, it is planned to develop preventive measures, including consideration of the socio-psychological characteristics of students, which often remain unattended.
Prospects for an agreement
The parties expressed the hope that the agreement with the CSTO will not remain formal, but will become a practical tool for the implementation of joint scientific and educational projects. An important aspect will be internships for teachers and students of KRSU in the structural divisions of the CSTO, as well as participation in research work.
According to CSTO representatives, cooperation with universities opens up new opportunities for developing solutions based on scientific data. For the first time in the history of the CSTO, the scientific community will be able to offer specific recommendations in response to current challenges, such as countering destructive ideologies, which is especially important in the context of modern security threats.
