What is terrible about meningococcal infection, said a specialist from the Kyrgyz Republic

Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the KRSU Elena Radchenko told why meningococcus is dangerous.

 

According to the Center for State Social Development, over the five months of this year, 15 cases of meningococcal infection were registered in Kyrgyzstan. According to the department, 6 patients were admitted to the infectious diseases hospital in extremely serious condition, one of them died.

 

In a conversation on Sputnik Kyrgyzstan radio, Radchenko said that meningococcus is transmitted by airborne droplets through close and fairly long-term contact between people. At the same time, according to the doctor, most often vivid manifestations of this infection are observed in children.

 

According to her, meningococcus in Kyrgyzstan is detected every year during the seasonal rise in infectious diseases: from approximately February to May. There is currently no outbreak of meningococcus in the country.

 

She added that the most important recommendation for the treatment of meningococcus is the need to consult a doctor in the first two days of the disease and not try to fight it on your own. According to the infectious disease specialist, although meningococcus is a severe infection, it responds quite well to antibacterial therapy.
