Experts and university students in Bishkek discussed the influence of social networks and mass culture on the consciousness of young people. The discussion on this topic was organized by the foundation «Eurasians – new wave».
Three key issues were addressed during the event:
– Which social networks do Kyrgyzstanis prefer and why?
– Social networks for young people: a communicative platform for communication, an alternative source of information, a tool for self-expression?
– Is government and public control over social networks necessary and why?
Students from leading universities in Kyrgyzstan took part in the discussion: KNU named after. Zh. Balasagyn, KRSU named after. B. Yeltsin, BSU named after. K. Karasaev and the International University of Kyrgyzstan.
Student of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after. B. Yeltsin Alina Devkina:
«I recently conducted a survey among students to find out what social networks they use and how many hours a day they devote to them. It turned out that the majority of Bishkek youth prefer Instagram, TikTok came in second place, and VKontakte came in third –. As it turned out, none of the young people use Facebook, calling it a social network «an adult» the site. Students spend 5-6 hours a day on social media».
