In 2001, Denis Fomin-Nilov graduated from the State University of Humanities. In 2015, he underwent professional retraining at the National Research Institute «Higher School of Economics» according to the program «Management of state and municipal orders».
He has the academic degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences and the academic title of Associate Professor. Author of 40 scientific articles, 15 educational and methodological publications and monographs.
He devoted more than 20 years to work at the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and is now a senior researcher. He held various leadership positions at his native university – State Academic University of Humanities, since 2009, has been combining work in a scientific and educational journal «History».
