According to a professor at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, most Bishkek residents speak Russian.
BISHKEK, August 17 – Sputnik. The interest of the population of Kyrgyzstan in the Russian language is great, said the director of the Russian Language Institute of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Professor Mamed Tagaev during a video conference at the Sputnik press center.
«In Kyrgyzstan, the population’s interest in the Russian language is great, but the research and educational parts are lagging behind a little. There is no conversation regarding Bishkek: Russian is mainly spoken throughout the city. We are a little confused by the «well-being» of the Russian language in the regions of the republic where there is a monolingual population», – Tagaev noted.
