The climate in Kyrgyzstan can be predicted 100 years in advance

A new program for analyzing climate data will make it possible to predict the climate in Kyrgyzstan over the next 100 years. International team of REC researchers «Greater Altai» Altai State University has developed a service that analyzes materials from weather stations in an automated mode. The information obtained, according to experts, will help in work and planning sectors of the economy that depend on climatic conditions. Including, for Kyrgyzstan, these are the areas of livestock farming, agriculture and energy. The developers reported this.

According to scientists in Kyrgyzstan, many areas of the country’s life support depend on weather conditions. Including agriculture, livestock and crop production. In the arid regions of the republic, they are very dependent on precipitation, winter and summer temperatures, snow cover and snow accumulation, especially on mountain glaciers. In addition, the climate has a great influence on the operation of hydroelectric power plants, which provide 90% of Kyrgyzstan with energy.

Scientists of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies «Greater Altai» Altai State University (AltSU) has developed a computer program that collects data from weather stations over the past 80 years and estimates climate change in a couple of minutes.

«Almost 80% of human activity is at risk during severe climate change. They therefore need to be forecast – in order to be able to adapt to the effects», – said Andrey Podrezov, head of the department of meteorology, ecology and environmental protection of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
