Exactly 80 years ago, Soviet troops won the Battle of Stalingrad – the bloodiest in human history.
On the banks of the Don and Volga, and then near the walls of Stalingrad, the country lost almost half a million soldiers, over 600 thousand were wounded. The Battle of Stalingrad lasted 200 days and nights and showed the whole world the courage and perseverance of Soviet soldiers. The outcome of this operation dispelled the myth of the invincibility of Nazi Germany.
The Day of Historical Victory on the Volga was widely celebrated today not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders.
The Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University honors the memory of the heroes. Today, within our walls, a photo exhibition opened «80 years of the Battle of Stalingrad». It presents unique exhibits from the period of the Great Patriotic War. Historians, scientists and public figures spoke about the exploits of veterans. About the details and little-known pages of the history of the battles in the southwest of the USSR, their influence on the course of World War II, lessons and conclusions for modern times.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic and the KRSU.
