Yesterday, a message appeared on the website of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic about a meeting between Sooronbai Jeenbekov and the Chairman of the National Commission on the State Language Nazarkul Ishekeev. The meeting took place on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the law «On the state language of the Kyrgyz Republic».
Nazarkul Ishekeev reported on the events planned for the anniversary, and also «told the president about the measures being implemented that were included in the national program for the development of the state language and improvement of language policy in the country for 2014–2020». During the dialogue, such an important topic as the possible translation of the Kyrgyz alphabet from Cyrillic to Latin was also touched upon. The President of Kyrgyzstan did not enter into the debate on this issue, but quite clearly and unambiguously stated that «it makes no sense to translate the Kyrgyz language from Cyrillic to Latin».
"The cultural and scientific potential of our country has achieved certain successes in conditions where it was based on the Cyrillic alphabet," said Sooronbai Jeenbekov. "Without wasting time on unnecessary discussions, we must use the available opportunities to achieve our goals and development.
The head of the republic also noted that «the main task is the deep introduction of the state language into the sphere of education, science, culture and economy of Kyrgyzstan».
