For the first time in many years, the Boom flood reminded Kyrgyzstanis of the power and strength of the natural elements, capable of demolishing everything in its path. This time there were no casualties. But there was no public discussion of the formidable phenomenon: there were no comments from officials or explanations from scientists. But, according to science, 95 percent of Kyrgyzstanis live in mudflow-prone areas. That's why it's so important to find out if Boom flow could have been predicted or prevented? What is the cause of such phenomena and how dangerous are they? We asked Andrey Podrezov, candidate of geographical sciences, associate professor of the department of ecology and meteorology of KRSU, to answer these and other questions.
