A large conference was held at KRSU «New migration in Eurasia: consequences for integration processes». About what migration is – the blessing or curse of the country that gives away young citizens, we talked with scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In a conversation on Sputnik Kyrgyzstan radio, Victoria Ledeneva, head of the department at the Institute of Demographic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that it is wrong to consider migration today as an unconditional good or evil.
Ledeneva’s colleague, chief researcher at the Institute of Demographic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences Tatyana Yudina, supported her, pointing out that Kyrgyzstan’s GDP is significantly replenished by migration transfers. At the same time, she noted that in Russia the demographic issue is partly being resolved at the expense of migrants.
