In the parliament of Kyrgyzstan they started talking about the transition of the Kyrgyz language to the Latin alphabet. Doctor of Philology, Professor Mamed Tagaev spoke about how necessary such a measure is for Kyrgyzstan, whether it is advisable and what it could lead to in an interview «CA-IrNews».
As a candidate for the post of Minister of Education, the current head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan, Kanybek Isakov, supported the leader of the parliamentary faction «Bir Bol» Altynbek Sulaymanov, who noted the need to switch to the Latin alphabet.
"There are examples in the history of development of countries when one country changed its schedule and then it developed, for example, Turkey. In Kyrgyzstan, in the 20s of the last century, we already used the Latin alphabet. For this reason, some believe that it is necessary to return to it again. What do you say about this?
When explaining the need to adopt a particular alphabet, economic, political, cultural and psychological reasons often come to the fore. Economic ones are very significant, because changing writing costs a lot of money. In reality, political reasons are usually more important, and states are willing to pay any money.
In the case of Turkey at the beginning of the 20th century, in my opinion, the change to the Latin alphabet was justified. Then, major political tasks arose for the country. Türkiye was defeated in the First World War and gave up all its territories. The Turkish language was called «Kara-Turks», which meant «the language of commoners». The ordinary population did not understand the literary language, since it consisted of 70-80% Arabic and Persian words.
