The current year in the Commonwealth of Independent States, chaired by Kyrgyzstan, is dedicated to the development of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication, which the leaders of the CIS countries agreed on back in December 2020. In this regard, it was decided to continue work on creating an organization to support and promote the Russian language, as well as conduct a number of studies, international conferences, forums and other events.
Taking up the baton from Kazakhstan in December 2022, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov assured that, as part of its chairmanship in the CIS, the Kyrgyz side will invariably pay great attention to strengthening good neighborly and trusting relations between the Commonwealth countries, based on respect for each other’s interests. But a month later, 75 out of 90 deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic in the first reading supported the new version of the law «On the State Language», which, according to experts, will narrow the application of the still official – Russian language in the republic as much as possible.
