Smog over Bishkek, which reached its highest concentration in early December, has dissipated slightly, but continues to pose a threat to the health of residents. Cooler temperatures are just around the corner, with forecasters predicting temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius, meaning the dangerous «cloud» will return. Environmentalists noted that the main cause of the capital's smog is emissions from home stoves.
According to the head of the Department of Meteorology, Ecology and Environmental Protection of KRSU Andrey Podrezov, the main «components» of smog are smoke and ash from private sector stoves. Car exhaust gases make their contribution, but not critically.
