In July in Kyrgyzstan, a week before the first round of admission of applicants canceled ban on increasing tariffs for paid services in state higher educational institutions. For many applicants this came as an unpleasant surprise.

 

Why was the ban introduced

Moratorium on increasing tariffs for paid educational services in state educational organizations of higher and secondary vocational education by decree the president was introduced in December 2021 for three academic years.

 

Restrictions were introduced to support students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many families lost their sources of income and were unable to pay the full cost of their studies. They asked to reduce the cost of contracts, provide deferments, and revise the payment system.

At that time, there were more than 70 universities operating in Kyrgyzstan, including 33 state ones. In them, the average cost of education for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic was 32.4 thousand soms per year, for foreigners — 48.9 thousand soms. In private universities for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic — 55.1 thousand soms per year.

The latter were not affected by the ban on changing tariffs.
