How to intensify youth participation in decision-making was discussed in Bishkek at a discussion platform «Electoral Rights Fest» dedicated to International Youth Day.
The discussion for young activists from 18 to 28 years old was organized by the Representative Office of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in the Kyrgyz Republic with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh Dastan Bekeshev and Aisuluu Mamashova, director of the PF «Common Cause» Aida Suyundueva and Doctor of Law, professor of the International University in Central Asia Andrey Ten spoke about their own experience of civic activism, activities in the field of human rights, electoral law, ensuring gender equality.
At the meeting, representatives of young people from among schoolchildren and students also spoke about their activism practices. For example, Azamat Kuchkanbaev, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction of KRSU, shared his experience of personal growth, social work and volunteering.
«In 2020, I prepared high school students for ORT in the village of Tor-Kul, helped with university admissions, and advised. Since the beginning of the pandemic, they have helped families with disabilities buy groceries. In «black» July I took patients to hospitals, then became a volunteer in «red zone», helping nurses. Today I work by profession, I want to open a center where students will be taught design».
