Oncologists from Bishkek and Tashkent spoke about the reasons for the increase in the incidence of breast cancer in Central Asian countries.
In the program «Special emphasis» on Sputnik Kyrgyzstan radio, Doctor of Medical Sciences, oncologist-mammologist Alisher Kakhkharov (Uzbekistan) noted that in recent years in the countries of Central Asia there has been an increase in the incidence of breast cancer (BC).
«Globally, the highest incidence rates of breast cancer are observed in countries such as Belgium (113.2 percent), Luxembourg (109.3), the Netherlands (105.9), South Korea (100.5), France (99.1), Australia (94.5), Great Britain (93.6), Ireland (90.3), in the Scandinavian countries (about 90 percent). In Uzbekistan, for example, this figure has been growing since the late 90s. In 2010, the incidence of breast cancer was 7.9 cases per 100 thousand population, by 2020 – already 9.1 cases. Mortality from this type of malignant tumor is also growing – in 2010 the figure was 3.5 per 100 thousand population, and in 2020 it was already 4.4. And this is not the limit. In Kazakhstan the numbers are even higher», – said Kakhkharov.
According to him, the reason for this growth is a complex of issues, including the hereditary factor.
«But there is one important nuance – this is the so-called "Western way of life". You see that in Europe the numbers are very large, and this is due to the fact that women there practically do not perform their natural tasks – almost never give birth or breastfeed. Unfortunately, in Asia it is also becoming fashionable to give birth less and less, the number of abortions is increasing, and this leads to hormonal and other types of disorders. As a result, we have an increase in the incidence of breast cancer», – said the oncologist.
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Oncology and Radiation Therapy of KRSU, plastic surgeon Kyyal Makieva confirmed the words of her Uzbek colleague.
«Kyrgyzstan is no exception, and breast cancer also occupies a strong leading position in our country: 19.2 percent of all cancer patients – patients with breast cancer. The incidence rate continues to increase – about 12 cases per 100 thousand population. If in Europe and other countries the mortality rate is low due to early detection and timely treatment, then, unfortunately, our situation is deplorable. Women often come in the third or fourth stage of cancer, which gives virtually no chance of recovery», – said Makieva.
