The VI International Scientific Readings in memory of Nikolai Przhevalsky "Scientific Research: from Origins to Peaks" were held in Smolensk. Such readings, as reported in the Russian Geographical Society (RGS), have been organized in the Smolensk region, where Przhevalsky himself is from, since 2008 with an interval of two–three years. And they gather scientists, historians, and public figures from various countries.

The reading was opened by the director of the Smolensk Poozerie National Park, Alexander Kochergin, with a story about the history of Nikolai Przhevalsky’s research and its significance for modern science.

This topic was continued by the director of the Przhevalsky house-museum (located in the village of the same name in the Smolensk region) Irina Mayorova, who quoted the famous researcher: "In Sloboda (now the same village of Przhevalsky – VB.KG) there will be my nest, from where I will fly deep into the Asian deserts.".
