The Great 220th Anniversary
And still the people's path will not be overgrown
Yesterday in Bishkek, as in all of Kyrgyzstan and in many other countries, they celebrated the 220th –anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin and International Russian Language Day: it was –Pushkin’s solemn and fun.
The center of Kyrgyz celebrations has traditionally been the majestic monument to the Poet at the main building of the Kyrgyz–Russian Slavic University. But — only for a few minutes. For the first time since June 6, 1999– (the opening date of the monument), immediately after the laying of flowers, the action moved from the monument to the Great Assembly Hall of the KRSU. However, even there the stage was decorated with a huge life-size photograph of the monument —!
