International relations in Asia are characterized by extreme dynamism, the influence of religious and ethnic contexts, multivectorism and competition. These relationships also depend on economic factors, preserve colonial and post-colonial practices, and lack legal mechanisms and instruments.
International law as a regulatory instrument The most important instrument for regulating these relations is international law, both general and regional. In recent years, the international legal policy of Asian states has been undergoing radical transformations. New interstate alliances are being formed, institution-building is accelerating, and existing territorial disputes are intensifying, some of which are becoming a factor in global politics. Examples of such disputes are the conflicts between Palestine and Israel and between Iran and the United States.
Asian States and the Global Economic Order
Asian states are integrating into the global economic order as oil exporters, investors and consumers. They are actively implementing large-scale infrastructure projects such as «One Belt – One Road» and the Economic Corridor «India – Middle East – Europe». Their influence on the international legal order is increasing. An example of this is the Resolution «Central Asia in the Face of Environmental Challenges: Strengthening Regional Solidarity for Sustainable Development and Prosperity», adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 19, 2023, at the initiative of a group of Central Asian states.
