Presentation of the monograph «Russian language in Kyrgyzstan: milestones of the past»

On May 31, 2023 at 14.00 (Bishkek time) there will be a presentation of the documentary monograph «Russian language in Kyrgyzstan: milestones of the past». Author of the book – Deputy Director of the Institute of Russian Language named after A. Orusbaev of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Doctor of Historical Sciences Olga Sumarokova.

 

The publication is dedicated to the history of the Russian language and education in Russian on the territory of modern Kyrgyzstan in the pre-revolutionary period. It explored the contribution of the Russian intelligentsia to the formation of Russian-Kyrgyz bilingualism and studied the potential of the Russian language as a tool for describing and developing the Kyrgyz language.

 

The new research approach to the study of language processes used in the work is a step towards rethinking the prevailing ideas in Russian and national historiographies about methods of positioning the Russian language in the region and reassessing its prospects in the sovereign Central Asian republics.

 

The publication is based on documentary materials, many of which are published for the first time. The book is part of the author's series «Eurasians - creators» and is dedicated to the Year of the Russian Language, declared in the CIS, and the 30th anniversary of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
