Registration for the International Conference in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War has begun

Registration for the international conference is open until November 30 «The Great Patriotic War in the collective memory of the peoples of the Commonwealth: on the 80th anniversary of the Victory». It will hear reports about the military brotherhood and labor exploits of the Soviet people, the history of the war as an object for information confrontation, the memorialization of War and Victory and the Great Patriotic War in the information field of youth.

The purpose of the conference — is to sum up the results of international events for the 80th anniversary of the Victory, discuss the perception of the history of the Great Patriotic War by modern youth and outline ways of cooperation in preserving the memory of the role of the Soviet people, countering the falsification of history and the glorification of Nazism, as well as in military memorial work.

The event will take place on December 4-5, 2025 in St. Petersburg, at the Tauride Palace under the organization of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

The conference is expected to hear reports and communications on the following thematic areas:

1. Military brotherhood and labor feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War:

—on the fronts in one trench: combat unity;

— evacuation and development of industrial base;

— feat of home front workers — a key point in the historical memory of the Commonwealth;

— help to besieged Leningrad – united by one pain.

2. The history of the Great Patriotic War as an object of information warfare:

— reasons, driving forces and areas of effort of history falsifiers;

— countering attempts to revise and distort historical events and results of the Great Patriotic War at the present stage;

— european war on Soviet soldiers’ monuments and the rehabilitation of Nazism;

— combating historical revisionism and the de-heroization of the past in educational and educational activities;

— the historical responsibility of the Nazi regime and its satellites for the genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union: the importance of international recognition for a secure present and future.

3. Memorialization of war and Victory: spaces and objects of memory:

— results of mass actions held in countries around the world in honor of Victory Day.

— archives, museums, libraries as centers for preserving historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War;

— methodology and practice of preserving the historical memory of the defenders of the Fatherland;

— prospects for field and archival exploratory research in the new information conditions;

— memorializing the missing;

— issues of access to documents on the history of war in the Commonwealth countries: exchange of experience, introduction of digital technologies;

— coverage of the Great Patriotic War in the modern media space and cinema.

4. The Great Patriotic War in the information field of youth:

— search movement in the Commonwealth and other countries: civic engagement of young people;

— search work in places of combat operations of the Great Patriotic War by public search associations;

— experience of volunteer activities aimed at preserving the historical memory of war participants and home front workers;

— forms and methods of teaching the history of the Great Patriotic War in educational institutions;

— youth initiatives to preserve the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War as a factor in the formation of patriotism among young people.

Representatives of legislative and executive bodies of state power, CIS bodies, cultural, scientific and educational institutions, public associations and youth organizations, the media of the CIS countries and other countries and international organizations are invited to participate in the conference.

Reports and speeches will be published in the official publications of the IPA CIS.
