A brief history of the department

The Department of Medical Rehabilitation of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University was part of the departments of therapeutic disciplines №1 (1996 - 2004) and rehabilitation medicine (2004 – 2009). By order of the rector № 324-P dated July 24, 2009, the department of physiotherapy, medical supervision and exercise therapy began to function independently. Later, by order of the rector № 284-P dated September 27, 2011, it was renamed the department of medical rehabilitation.

From 2004 to 2011, the department was headed by a prominent scientist - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alymkulov D.A. Under his leadership, 19 candidates and doctors of science were trained. Professor Alymkulov D.A. – author of more than 250 scientific works, of which 16 monographs, 2 textbooks and 8 patents.

Since 2011, the department has been headed by Ph.D., Senior Researcher. Saralinova G.M.
The Department of Family Medicine was organized on the basis of a decision of the Academic Council of the KRSU (minutes №5 of December 25, 2018) by order of the rector № 6-P of January 11, 2019. From 2019  to 2024  The department was headed by Ph.D. Churakaev M.V.

In September 2024, by order of the rector of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Family Medicine, the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Family Medicine was merged into a single division.  Gulnara Merovna, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Saralinova, was appointed head of the department.

The department currently provides teaching in the following disciplines:

1. «Family medicine» for 6th year students of specialties «General medicine», «Pediatrics» and «General medicine for foreigners»;
2. «Medical rehabilitation»  for 6th year students of specialties «General Medicine»,   «General Medicine for foreigners», 5th year «Pediatrics» and «Dentistry»;
3. «Sports medicine» for 6th year students of the specialties «General Medicine», «Pediatrics» and «General Medicine for foreigners».The teaching staff also trains clinical residents in specialties 08/31/54 "General medical practice (Family medicine)"   and  08/31/50 "Physiotherapy".
